International Awards for Undergraduates - EU

Annual scholarships of £10,000 for European students in financial need, for the duration of their undergraduate degree - as well as a partial, or full, waiver of College Fees where needed.

One of the most important cornerstones of our Admissions strategy is the promotion of diversity; Christ’s believes that our students learn more, and learn better, if they are stretched and challenged by views and experiences unlike their own. This not only involves admitting groups that are under-represented at Cambridge from within the UK, but also admitting students from outside this, including the EU - students from the Union making up around a fifth of our undergraduate cohort.

This has been achieved through building strong links with outreach networks across Europe, including Denmark, Eastern Europe, and Cyprus - alongside the fact EU students qualified for home fee status, making them eligible for tuition fee loans and the Cambridge Bursary Scheme.

However, with the UK’s decision to leave the EU, European students will no longer be eligible for consideration as home students. This will mean that, from October 2021 entry, they will have to pay course fees of between £22,000 and £58,000 a year, as well as a College Fee of £9,400 annually.

For this reason, Christ's is aiming to establish a range of new scholarships, building on our newly developed Christ's College International Awards. By being able to target some of these Awards specifically at applicants from Europe, we can ensure that the College maintains its long-standing relationship with the continent, and offer places to the best and brightest students from the EU who would otherwise struggle to afford a Cambridge degree.

With your support, we hope to be able to continue, and develop, such vital links with Europe - something that will only become more important as we move into a post COVID-19 and Brexit world, in order to ensure Christ’s continued diversity of students and culture.

'My experience and relationship with Christ's and its people has been amazing both before and after being admitted... I would not want anyone to be stripped of this opportunity simply due to financial difficulties'

Giorgos (m. 2019), from Cyprus, reading Mathematics

'Our partnership has underscored Christ's commitment to widening participation and we are excited to continue working together with a College which is putting action behind their commitments'

Emil Bender Lassen, Chair of Trustees at Project Access International
