David Ross Granger (m. 1924) matriculated at Christ’s having graduated from Yale University. He only studied at Christ’s for a year, after which he returned to America and proceeded to join his father’s firm of Granger & Company. He acquired a seat on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) soon after his arrival on Wall Street at the age of 23, and held it for a record 76 years until his death. This officially made him the longest-serving NYSE member in history, witnessing economic ups and downs from the Wall Street Crash and the Great Depression to the boom of the 1990s. Perhaps his most surprising achievement was a bob-sledding silver medal from the 1928 Winter Olympics – apparently the American team found themselves a man short in San Moritz, and Granger answered the call!
