Also known as the Sizar's Fund, from the historical term for poor students who performed tasks for the College, our Hardship Fund is designed to support students who find themselves in financial difficulty during their course.
This is accomplished through the provision of hardship grants for those students who find themselves in need of immediate, or unexpected, additional financial support. This funding is awarded by a student's Tutor, in consultation with the Senior Tutor, on an individual basis, and can be applied for at any time of the academic year.
Christ's provides around £20,000 each year in such grants: ranging from new books, to travel to and from medical appointments, and even personal support for those who could otherwise not afford to take part in College life. Indeed, this funding is an important way that we can ensure our students can thrive here at Cambridge, regardless of the barriers they might face.
