Among the many generous gifts Christ's has received throughout its history, legacies have been particularly important; friends and well-wishers, Fellows and Members have remembered the College in their Will, enabling Christ's to develop and flourish as a leading centre of excellence. All gifts, large or small, can make a real difference.
Christ's College is a registered charity (Registered Charity No.1137540) so a gift in your Will to the College may reduce the inheritance tax payable on your estate. In the 2011 Budget, the Government announced its intention to incentivise bequests to charity by reducing inheritance tax from 40% to 36% on estates where at least 10% of the net estate has been given to one or more charities. This change came into force for deaths on or after 6 April 2012.
When you make or update your Will, please consider including a legacy to Christ's College. Alternatively, you can make a gift by adding a codicil to your existing Will. By doing so, you can help to ensure that Christ's maintains its tradition of excellence for generations to come.
Giving through a Will is often the simplest and most affordable method of supporting Christ’s. This section of the website outlines some of the tax advantages of making a gift in a Will and describes some of the different types of legacies available.
All those who notify us of a bequest will be invited to join the Christ's College Fisher Society. Members of the Society receive a specially-commissioned silver pin, are included in our annual Donor Report, and are invited to regular events in College.
The Development Director is happy to talk confidentially to Members and friends of the College who are considering leaving a legacy.
