                             Welcome

Welcome to our Summer edition of the College e-newsletter.

It's been a busy few months since our last e-newsletter at the end of 2013 and we have enjoyed meeting many of you at the various alumni events that have taken place since.

Telephone Campaign 2014

The 2014 Telephone Campaign was a great success and we would like to take this opportunity to thank all our alumni who donated. Our twelve student callers worked very hard over the two weeks of the Campaign; they really enjoyed speaking with alumni, sharing memories of Christ's and having the opportunity to give something back to College. The Campaign raised over £180,000 which was a wonderful result and will make a real difference to current stuents during their time at Christ's. There is still the opportunity to give if you haven't yet. If you would like to make a gift please follow the link to our online giving page.

                  Blyth Building Ceremony

Blyth 1

On 7 June we were delighted to welcome Professor Stephen Blyth and his family back to College for a ceremony to rename 'W' building in Third Court. The building was renamed  The Blyth Building in recognition of Stephen’s exceptional financial support. The Blyth family has a long connection with Christ’s College, dating back to 1818. Professor Blyth himself read Mathematics at Christ’s College from 1985 to 1988, graduating with First Class Honours as Third Wrangler. We are very grateful to Professor Blyth for his commitment to support College.

                     May Ball 2014 Review

This year's May Ball, on 17 June, was a huge success and thankfully the weather stayed fair for the majority of the evening! The Christ's Ball received rave reviews. Varsity magazine wrote, "close to perfection", and the reviewer went on the say, "Christ’s was, by some distance, the best May Ball I’ve been to in my three years at Cambridge". Well done to all involved who made it a wonderful event. The full Varsity review is available to read online.

Old Library Exhibition

The Library's current exhibition 'Christ's and America' is now available to view online. It will remain on display in the Old Library until 13 November 2014. The exhibition showcases past alumni together with printed books, manuscripts and photos from the diverse special collections.

Unearthed: Exhibition by Issam Kourbaj

Christ's artist-in-residence, Issam Kourbaj, will be presenting his new exhibition, 'Unearthed', at P21 Gallery from 4 July - 16 August. Deeply affected by the ongoing violence and huge numbers of casualties in his home country of Syria, Kourbaj has created numerous multimedia works. Proceeds from the exhibition will be donated to Médecins sans Frontières who are working in Syria. More information can be found here.

Alumni Golfing News

Christ's alumni were invited by St John’s and Fitzwilliam Colleges to join a triangular golf match at Porters Park, Radlett on Wednesday 4 June. The day consisted of 9 holes (optional) followed by lunch, after which the match was played: the day was rounded off with a sandwich tea and prizes. This was an excellent opportunity for an enjoyable day on a very good course in convivial company. Mr John Sefton (m. 1958) would be pleased to hear from alumni interested in future event at john.sefton142@btinternet.com.
