From the Master

Professor Frank Kelly
Welcome to another edition of the Christ's Alumni e-newsletter. I have had the pleasure of meeting a number of you at events this Summer, including some of our alumni based in America during the Choir Tour of the East Coast and at the BBQ in Washington kindly hosted by Janet Satterthwaite (m. 1982).

I am delighted to report that members 91% of our graduating class achieved Firsts or 2.1s, a record high, and for those of you who have just graduated, welcome to the alumni community!

Do take a moment to have a look at the events calendarupdate your details and browse through the publications. You are now a member of an international network of over 7000 alumni around the world. We look forward to seeing you back in College for events in the future.

I hope to meet many more of you at various forthcoming events including the third in our new series of Distinguished Speakers events 'Changing banking for good' on the 8 October.

Frank Kelly

JCR Success

Congratulations to the Christ's JCR Committee who won the award for being the best JCR Committee at this year's CUSU Student Awards.

This is the first year that CUSU have had such awards and there were over 50 nominations across the four categories: Best JCR Committee; Best MCR Committee; Best Individual Officer and Best Campaign.

Congratulations also to James Stevens, Christ's JCR web master, on winning the Best Individual Officer award.

September Reunions

This September College is hosting two reunion dinners for alumni. The first, on September 14, is for alumni who matriculated up to and including 1954 and in 1963. This will mark the 70th, 60th and 50th anniversaries for some of those attending and we hope to have an excellent turn out as a result.

The second dinner is for alumni who matriculated from 1996-1999 and will be taking place on 28 September - coinciding with the University's Alumni Festival 2013 (which is open to all Cambridge alumni and their guests). For information about either of the reunions, please contact

Old Library - Past Masters Exhibition

17 June 2013 saw the launch of a new exhibition in the Old Library.

Entitled Past Masters, the display explores five centuries of leadership at the College, celebrating some of the inspirational characters that have shaped its history. (Picture: Dr Alan Munro, Master 1995 - 2002).

Friends of the Old Library will be invited to attend a viewing of the exhibition and a special talk from current Master Professor Frank Kelly CBE FRS on Saturday 28 September.

Alumni interested in attending this event and/or becoming a Friend of the Old Library should contact Development Officer Sarah Proudfoot:

Recent Alumni Events

May Bumps Picnic

Despite the occasional showers that hit this year's riverside excursion, an excellent turn out of Christ's supporters attended our annual riverside picnic for the final day of racing at Fen Ditton. All the results can be viewed here

June Reunion

Saturday 22 June saw around 100 alumni and guests return to College for an informal lunchtime get together.

Members from 1990-1995 enjoyed drinks, lunch and Jazz in a marquee in second court.

Association Dinner

This year's Association Dinner was well attended by alumni from a range of different year groups. Next year's invitation will not be included with the College's Annual Magazine, as it has been in previous years. Instead, invitations will be sent out by email and post in November. The date for next year's Dinner is Saturday 28 June 2014 so you may wish to put it in your diaries now!

Family Day and Summer Garden Party

By the time the Family Day and Summer Garden Party came around, summer weather had finally arrived!

It was an excellent day of sunshine, entertainment and fun and we were delighted to see so many alumni and their families attend.
