Following the unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic, the Easter term of 2020 was conducted completely online, with Michaelmas 2020 moving to a blend of in-person and online learning. Now, as we enter into Lent term 2021, we find ourselves in a third Lockdown; and it is thanks to your donations that we are able to continue supporting our students through these difficult times.
Most notably, Christ's has been able to make several hardship grants to those of our students who have experienced financial issues as a result of the pandemic, helping to fund travel and accommodation, and supporting enhanced IT provision. This included Digital Access grants in Michaelmas, to ensure every student had the necessary equipment to engage with online learning. With around 100 students still in College, we have been able to use these funds to provide for their needs during isolation, as well as PPE for staff and students to enable interaction where needed.
With the return to an online University experience, we have made provisions for students to be able to access drop-in, online counselling sessions, as well as virtual meetings with tutors. The JCR and MCR Committees, and other College Clubs and Societies, are finding new ways of ensuring the Christ’s community continues to thrive.
These continued efforts are possible due to our Hardship Fund, part of the Student Support Initiative, alongside our wider General Funds, and the generous support we have received from alumni and friends towards these causes.
