Welcome

It was a pleasure to meet many of you at our annual Winter Drinks Reception on Wednesday 27 November. Heading further into the festive season, there are still a number of opportunities to hear performances from our wonderful College Choir. You can keep up to date with their news at www.cambridgechoir.co.uk.

As you can see below, there are a number of alumni society events coming up early next year and these are fantastic opportunities to return to College and meet with current students.

As I write we have just admitted our new scholars for 2013 and are about to celebrate the Commemoration of Benefactors.

On behalf of the College, I would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a peaceful 2014.

Catherine Twilley

Fellow and Development Director

Fisher Society Lunch

The Inaugural Christ’s College Fisher Society event, which took place on Sunday 10th November, was a great success. The event was held in order to thank the College’s legators for their support and generosity in remembering Christ’s in their will and was very well attended.

Guests were invited to begin the day at the Service of Remembrance in the College Chapel before being served drinks in the SCR prior to a convivial lunch in Hall. After lunch, guests returned to the atmospheric Chapel to listen to a fascinating talk by Dr Francis Woodman on the last days of Lady Margaret, the College’s foundress. Dr Woodman gave a wonderfully entertaining account of Lady Margaret’s ancestry, personality and legacy and was a fitting topic for the day.

We are very grateful to all who support the College in continuing to flourish as a centre of academic excellence with a thriving spirit of achievement, dedication and community and legacies play an important part in doing so.

Christ's College is a registered charity, so a legacy to the College may reduce the inheritance tax payable on your estate. More information about this can be found here.

If you would like more information about leaving a legacy to Christ’s, please contact the Development Officer, Sarah Proudfoot on 01223 761769 or shr29@cam.ac.uk.

Events 2014

The New Year will bring with it a number of opportunities to return to College. In early 2014 there will be Dinners for alumni with Sporting Colours, and for Marguerites, Classicists and Lawyers.

Do get in touch if you would like to make sure your name is on the mailing list for any of these events! alumni@christs.cam.ac.uk

On Saturday 29 March alumni who matriculated in 2007 are invited to proceed to collect their MA degree certificates from Senate House and enjoy a Reunion Dinner in Hall. More information and booking details.

Original College Watercolours

Alumni will be familiar with the prints of the wonderful watercolours of the Great Gate and First Court by Dennis Roxby Bott but we are now able to offer the opportunity to purchase the original watercolours through Contemporary Watercolours, the company which collaborates with the College for the sale of the prints.

Each original is available at a cost of £750, of which 25% will be donated to the College by Contemporary Watercolours. The pictures can be viewed on-line here but please contact the Development Office at development@christs.cam.ac.uk if you are interested in buying the originals.
